A Level General Paper tuition is conducted by Mr Chng Chin Joo, who is an ex MOE lecturer with more than 13 years of teaching experience. He has taught GP in Jurong Junior College and Pioneer Junior College for 8 years from 2005 to 2012, before joining the School of Thought as a full time tutor for 3 years where he further enhanced and honed his ability to engage students. For all the students whom he has taught to date, 70% of them scored A’s and B’s. Most of his students have gone on to be qualified doctors and successful entrepreneurs.
Mr Chng graduated from the University of Strathclyde with a Master of Letters, specializing in Renaissance Literature and has a Post Graduate Diploma in Education (NIE) specializing in English Literature and Language. He has the ability to simplify complex concepts to help students in their understanding and application of the subject, which then allows the student to clearly summarize the situation as a whole. His approach is organic in nature and is custom fit to strengthen a student’s weaker skills and to enhance skills that are already competent.
Under his guidance, students will progressively work on the different components of a series of A-level GP papers in a simulated exam environment, to enhance performance. This approach to learning is supported through the use of online notes and social media group platforms as well as mobile apps. See the GP tuition syllabus.
Having sat for the GCE A Levels as a private candidate many times in the past 5 years in order to test the effectiveness and validity of the methods he teaches, Mr Chng subscribes to a more organic approach to General Paper instead of a cut and dried curriculum simply because of the organic nature of the subject he teaches.
Apart from teaching, Mr Chng is immensely passionate in being able to help others learn and grow, and that journey has led him to many different and esoteric areas, all providing him with opportunities to develop skillsets that enhance his capabilities. When he has the opportunity, he has worked with youths from primary schools to polytechnics as a facilitator, guiding them through experiential activities to learn and apply skills that would help them develop as competent leaders and cohesive team members. The numerous camps and workshops in countless different settings have provided him with a wealth of experience in facilitating learning that cannot be found elsewhere, impacting his pedagogical methods, making his lessons very readily applicable to real life, not just in a classroom.
To bring to life a subject, it often helps for the teacher himself to experience the subject in its fullness in his life – and this is perhaps what allows Mr Chng to grow and learn together with his students.
